I kept my old AladdEL.dat from version 5.6. How do I import all of this data to 6.0 ?

Unfortunately your 5.6 settings cannot be automatically transferred to version 6. We have totally re-written the latest version, with all template settings now being stored in an Aladdins folder within Outlook. We did this in order to reduce the number of support issues regarding the old .dat files.

As both versions can be run together, you can manually transfer your settings for each template, or use the wizards in Version 6 to create new templates.

Can I print a 'one-off' address without adding an Outlook contact?

Yes; there are two methods to achieve this.

  1. By opening Aladdins from any Outlook contact folder and editing information displayed in the Delivery address edit window in the Print view. Then click either the Preview or Print All buttons. Changes will not be saved after printing.
  2. By opening Aladdins from any other Outlook folder and adding information in the blank Delivery address edit window and clicking either button as above.

Why does the printing cut off when close to the document edge?

This is caused by factory pre-set margins in your printer driver. Margins will vary from printer to printer and also different document types selected within a print driver. 'Aladdins - Envelopes & Labels' displays the printer margins as a red rectangle in the print preview. Any items extending outside this rectangle will not be printed.

Version 5.6
Adjust the printing position of the address or image not printing correctly, by making changes to the margin settings in the Address Layout tab in the Setup dialog. Check that your print will be OK by opening the print preview.

Version 6
Make changes to the position of components in the Layout view as required
Note: Aladdins Pro. version has a Margin Auto Adjust feature to ensure all data on labels will be printed. This is located in the Printer component in the Layout view.

Is there a way to backup my envelope and label settings?

Version 5.6
The best method is to move your Aladdins setting from their default location to a subfolder of a commonly backed up folder (like My Documents). To do this, select the define styles option in the Aladdins popup menu in Outlook. Then select the Settings Folder button and point to a new location for the settings files to be saved, i.e. C:\My Documents\Aladdins Settings. Aladdins will move your current settings to this new location and the next time you backup your documents the Aladdins settings will also be backed up.

Version 6.0 onwards
All Aladdins templates and registration information is stored in a Mail folder in Outlook called Aladdins, with subfolders for each of the different types of Aladdins templates (Envelope, Label and Rich text). As long as you back up your Outlook exchange mailboxes or Pst's, all Aladdins information will also be backed up.

How do I transfer my Aladdins settings (Styles) to another computer?

Version 5.6
On the originating computer (computer A) - EXPORT

  1. Select Define Styles... from the Aladdins pop-up menu in Outlook
  2. Select the Export to... button at the bottom of the Define styles dialog box.
This will open up a browsing window.
  3. Browse to a suitable directory to hold the Aladdins settings files temporarily.
For example; browse to and select the Floppy drive or a disk with more capacity such as a Zip disk because the 2 files (AladdEL.dat and OlEnvLab.dat) may be too big to fit on a floppy.
Alternatively, the files can be emailed as attachments to any other computer. Note: zip the attachment to avoid the Outlook Security patch.
  4. Click the OK button
NOTE: If you have other Aladdins products installed, you will be prompted if you want to export your other Aladdins settings. Select Yes or No
Computer A will export the files to the target directory. On completion, a dialog stating that the export process has completed successfully, will be displayed. Remove the floppy/zip disk and insert it into computer B.

On the second computer (computer B) - IMPORT

  1. Select Define Styles... from the Aladdins pop-up menu in Outlook.
  2. Select the Import from... button at the bottom of the Define Styles... dialog box
  3. Browse to the directory where you placed the files temporarily, select the files and click the OK button
Computer B will import these files containing ALL your Aladdins settings and formats (Styles)
  4. On computer B, click on any of the Aladdins tool bar buttons in Outlook to see your familiar Styles in the pop-up menu.

NOTES: All envelope and label styles will be moved at one time.
To import settings for other Aladdins programs, Open each one in turn and follow the steps above.
